Anti-Corruption and Governance

Good governance is essential to unlocking Africa’s full potential. Weak institutions, opaque systems, and misaligned incentives hinder development, limit innovation, and block access to vital services. Strengthening governance and tackling corruption ensure resources are used effectively, policies deliver results, and innovations can scale sustainably. Our approach blends local insight with targeted strategies to build transparency, close policy gaps, and strengthen accountability. By partnering with governments, civil society, and communities, we foster trust, enable impactful investments, and support lasting, meaningful progress.

Past Projects

Namibia: Beneficial Ownership Implementation

The project focused on strengthening Namibia’s ability to implement and operationalize beneficial ownership (BO) transparency reforms. Supported the government in meeting requirements set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT). The project included consultations, the development of legal and regulatory frameworks, and capacity-strengthening among relevant authorities. By advancing BO transparency, the project promoted accountability, supported fair business practices, and aligned Namibia with international standards for financial integrity and good governance.

Zimbabwe: Coalition for Transparency, Accountability and Responsive Governance

The project aimed to strengthen democratic governance in Zimbabwe by supporting a broad coalition of civil society, the private sector, and government, focused on promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen-responsive leadership. In partnership with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and the Zimbabwe Institute, the initiative worked to enhance collaboration, improve civil society’s capacity to monitor government actions, and advocate for open, inclusive decision-making. Through evidence-based advocacy, public engagement, and policy dialogue, the project sought to increase government responsiveness, reduce opportunities for corruption, and ensure that citizens’ voices play a central role in shaping governance processes.

Malawi: Anti-Corruption Civil Society Support

The project aimed to strengthen the role of civil society in combating corruption and promoting integrity in Malawi. It focused on building civil society's capacity to monitor public institutions, advocate for transparent governance, and engage citizens in demanding accountability. Through training, coalition-building, evidence-based advocacy, and public awareness initiatives, the project supported civil society and media efforts to expose corruption risks, influence policy reforms, and foster a culture of openness and responsible governance.
